Annual Report

FOWS Board began in early spring 2009, setting community targets using Placer County’s Community Plans at Lake Tahoe, the TRPA Community Plans and advice from Sierra Nevada Alliance.  Our first meeting with key residents of the West Shore was in May.

Community Vision

We continued our Community Meetings each month up through September. The result is a Community Vision that focuses on five areas of concern:

  1. Transportation and Public Safety
  2. Conservation of Natural Resources
  3. Land-Use Development
  4. Recreation and Public Access and
  5. Social Cohesion –Supporting Community.

The remarkable fact is that the vision we developed is consistent with the 2007 Regional Vision Pathways & Forum Summary held by TRPA which had over 2500 participants. We have validated once more the interests of the West Shore community at Lake Tahoe. The final Friends Community Vision will be presented to the TRPA Board on December 16, 2009.

Newsletter

Our newsletter grew to 252 subscribers some of whom also shared in the final phases of the Community Vision.

Endorsement Petition Campaign.

FOWSPetition Campaign is an endorsement of the following: “We the undersigned want to balance the protection of our rural communities while preserving our natural resources on the West Shore. ” We finished the summer with over 280 signatures from residents of the West Shore. These petitions will be presented in support of our Community Vision at TRPA at the December 16th meeting.

Homeowners Associations Meetings

During the summer, the FOWS Board met with many Homeowner Associations on the West Shore. It was wonderful to share our thoughts of the Community Vision and to hear their responses. This also allowed for more signatures on our Endorsement Petition.
