We Need You!

There are many ways for individuals to provide support. FOWS strives to become a strong, responsible voice for the protection of the fragile ecosystems of the West Shore, while working to build truly sustainable mountain communities.

How can I participate?

There are a myriad of ways we can use your help:

  • Enjoy meeting other people and sharing ideas? Help us follow the Area Plans being developed for West Shore! We need people to attend the public meetings and workshops scheduled by Placer County and TRPA to help us follow the Placer County Tahoe Basin and other potential projects and plans through their environmental review and public processes.
  • Calling all writers! Creative, technical, whatever your style – we need your help! Interested individuals can help by writing letters regarding the draft Area Plan(s) to the planning agencies, local and regional newspapers (i.e. the Sierra Sun, Moonshine Ink, and Lake Tahoe News), and other outlets. Exercise your inner artist while helping shape the future of the West Shore.
  • Live in Tahoma, Rubicon Bay, or Meeks Bay? Depending on the County’s schedule, sometime this year we may need help following the El Dorado County’s development of their Area Plan for the West Shore. In addition, plan updates are being considered for the Meek’s Bay Resort.
  • Like to socialize? Help us get the message out! If you are a member of a community group, homeowners association, or just the host of a wildly popular neighborhood barbeque, please invite us to come speak with you about FOWS issues and activities. For extra chatty volunteers, we can always use help speaking to other groups, planning agencies, and West Shore neighbors as well.
  • Want to simply lend support to help us implement our Mission? Please, join us and/or donate to the cause. FOWS Board members, consultants, and volunteers work hard to evaluate the environmental impacts and benefits of projects on the West Shore, to participate and encourage better projects, and to provide this information to the public. As much as we give our own blood, sweat, and tears, we simply can’t do all of our work without financial assistance.

Whatever your skills, background, or interests, chances are FOWS can use your help! Please contact us to discuss your interests and where you may be able to help FOWS protect West Shore.
