Coalition to Protect Lake Tahoe

The Coalition to Protect Lake Tahoe is dedicated to ensuring that Tahoe remains a beautiful place to live and to bring our families to visit. Members have spent decades striving to protect Tahoe’s deep blue waters and scenic beauty. We want to preserve this treasured place so that future generations will also enjoy coming to Tahoe to recreate and connect with nature. Members include the Sierra Club, Friends of the West Shore, Friends of Tahoe Vista, North Tahoe Citizen Action Alliance, North Tahoe Preservation Alliance, and Earthjustice.

Membership is limited to those who subscribe to the NTCAA Goals and Objectives and are willing to participate in the organization’s activities.

North Tahoe Preservation Alliance

The Mission of the NTPA is to preserve the natural beauty and rustic character of the North Shore of Lake Tahoe and to perpetuate our easygoing lifestyle within this wild environment without promoting overdeveloped urbanization of existing commercial areas. The NTPA was formed after citizens became involved with several proposed and TRPA-endorsed (or approved) projects that did not fit the scale, character, or community interests of the North Shore, and it became clear a non profit corporation in Nevada was required for continued citizen’s involvement.

Sierra Forest Legacy

Formed in 1996, as the Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign, the Campaign’s partners, including The Wilderness Society, Sierra Club, Friends of the River, and the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center, had been working independently on Sierra Nevada issues since the 1980s. The Campaign was formed with the primary goal of protecting and restoring Sierra Nevada national forests and to coordinate and focus the efforts of its member groups and maximize their effectiveness. In 2007, the Campaign changed its name to Sierra Forest Legacy to better reflect its expanded mission and vision of protecting Sierra Nevada forests and communities.
